Read online for some options…wanted to avoid using chemicals. Turns out boiling water works pretty good. So will just have to take it one spot at a time.
Floor Install – Update #3

Ok so I changed “days” to “updates” since I didn’t do anything yesterday. Anywho, here is the latest.
All was going well until I hit the glue from hell right at this spot. The cleared area took about 15 minutes to remove.

I could NOT figure out how to get these boards up with this crazy super glue. Prybar, hammer, rubber mallet, utility knife, metal putty knife…

The glue was so strong the boards were curving and bending. And breaking if I went too fast. Finally figured it out…had to use the prybar and my hammer. Slowly work my way along the edge using both to pry it up. Had to do it really slow or the board would break apart. Very time consuming. Am just glad it wasn’t like this the whole way around!

Close-up of the two different types of glue. The “bad” glue is a great deal thicker and it is still sticky.

Now the REAL fun begins. Scraping all this junk up off the floor.

Flooring Project – Day 2

First of all, there are no pictures from day 1. This is the first post on the flooring replacement. We purchased some laminate flooring from IKEA to replace the carpeting in the front room (we are making it an office) and the wood in the entry. So yesterday was officially day 1, and I tore out the carpet and padding.
Day 2 (this evening), I removed the tacking strip for the carpeting, took off the quarter round around the entry, and removed the edge pieces of the entry floor.
Entry

The wonderful glue that was used to attach the entry to the concrete. Going to be fun scraping this all up!

Carpeting removed (1/2)

Carpeting removed (2/2)

The nice crack I found in our foundation after tearing up the carpet. I have some concrete sealant to fill it in before I put down the moisture barrier.

TOMORROW: Finish removing the wood for the entry and begin scraping off the glue. Forecast is for 60% chance of rain tomorrow and a chance for rain Friday, so may not be able to start the install this weekend. We shall see.
